Whether dad likes the indoors, outdoors, or even the virtual world, we’ve complied some event picks ranging from Father’s Day classics to out of the box ideas.
Washington Brewers’ Festival
If your dad is passionate about beer, there’s no better place to be than Marymoor Park this Father’s Day weekend. The Washington Brewers’ Festival brings a curated selection of 500 different beers gathered from 100 brewers around the state. The all-ages festival will also host a lineup of food trucks, live music, and lots of other activities. So grab a beer, and kick back on the wide open fields, and hope the weather holds up. June 15–17, Marymoor Park, $5-$30. washingtonbeer.com
Seattle Mariners vs. Boston Red Sox
If your dad is a baseball fan and has yet to get tickets for this Father’s Day game, act fast! The Mariners are going up against the Red Sox for what’s sure to be a thrilling matchup between two of the best teams in the American League. So gather your family to give some love to the Mariners… or the Red Sox (we don’t judge!) (editor’s note: We do judge). The only way to make the day even more all-American would be to swing by one of the local farmers’ markets in the morning, support local apple farmers, and bake the old man an apple pie. June 17 at 1:10 p.m., Safeco Field, $70-$125. mariners.com
Festival Sundiata
Celebrate and explore African American artistic traditions and their historical roots in Africa at Festál’s Festival Sundiata (named after Sundiata Keita, a 13th century king and founder of the Mali Empire). Indulge all five of your senses with the music, fashion, food, dance, and art that has come to define black culture in America. It’s a great chance to bond with dad while upping your cultural IQ. June 16 & 17, Seattle Center, Free. seattlecenter.com/festal
Museum of Flight
Fathers accompanied by their children of any age (even the grown up ones) will receive a free ticket to the Museum of Flight on Sunday. The museum is currently hosting new exhibits like Vietnam Divided, and the Spirit of Flight photography exhibit will open on Father’s day weekend. After you look around at the exhibits, take part in the Weekend Family Workshop where kids can make a sweet treat for their dads. June 17, 10 a.m.–5 p.m., Museum of Flight, $24 (dads get in free). museumofflight.com
Virtual Golf and (Real) Scotch at Bell Lounge
With the dawn of the virtual world upon us, the possibilities are endless. Imagine being able to play elite golf courses without having to deal with tee time reservations or sky high greens fees. With that in mind, take your dad for some classic Father’s Day golfing with a twist. The virtual golf simulator at Loews Hotel 1000 brings 50 of the world’s best courses from around the world right to you and pops. If that wasn’t snazzy enough, the Bell Lounge also hosts a tasting of Ardbeg and Glenmorangie Scotches along with cocktails and lunch. June 17 at noon, Loews Hotel 1000, $25. loewshotels.com
Civil War Reenactment and Living History Camps
Here’s one for all the history nerd dads. A road trip out of the city can double as a time travel journey back to Civil War-era America. Union Gap hosts the state’s largest Civil War Reenactment Battle, spanning acres. Watch as the North and South face off and listen to an Abe Lincoln look-alike passionately recite the Gettysburg Address. June 16 & 17, Central Washington Agricultural Museum, Union Gap. centralwaagmuseum.org
Father’s Day Virtual 5k
For some people, the workout grind never stops, even on holidays. If your dad is a fitness freak who’d rather be active than relaxed and pampered on his special day, the Father’s Day 5k virtual race offers up a nice, long run for a good cause. The virtual aspect means that you can run wherever you want, whether it be on a trail or at your gym on a treadmill. As part of the event, 15 percent of the proceeds from each registration goes to Team Hoyt, a foundation that supports the goals and aspirations of disabled and physically challenged young people. June 17, $18. virtualrunevents.com
